Unleashing Potential

The Academy Programme, in partnership with AoC Sport, Burnley College, and WIT Fitness, proudly presents The College Fitness Games—a compelling fitness competition designed to identify the ‘fittest’ student across AoC Sport member colleges. This multi-stage event not only challenges students physically but also nurtures their mental resilience and teamwork skills.

The Stages of Competition

Qualifying Workouts: The competition kicks off with two initial workouts. The first, “Jumanji,” is a 12-minute AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible) session consisting of 12 Dumbbell Snatches, 12 Box Jumps, and 12 AB Mat Sit Ups, challenging students to maximize their repetitions within the time cap. The second workout, “Into the Wild,” involves six rounds of American Kettlebell Swings, Air Squats, and Lunges, with a strict 18-minute time cap to test endurance and strength.

Semi-Finals: Hosted by Burnley College, this phase includes a mix of power cleans, burpees, and thrusters within a tight five-minute window, pushing the athletes’ speed and power to the limits. Additionally, competitors engage in a Kipping Toes to Bar AMRAP and a tactical “Helen” workout, comprising a 400m Run, Hang DB Snatches, and Wall Walks, aimed at testing their strategic pacing and stamina.

Grand Finals: The culmination of the games takes place at CattleDog CrossFit in Northampton, where finalists strive to outperform one another under the highest pressure.

Beyond the Games

The Academy Programme extends its support beyond just the competition. It encourages educational institutions to become CrossFit affiliates, offering a pathway for schools and colleges to integrate CrossFit into their curricula without the standard affiliation costs. This initiative supports physical education in a novel and engaging way, promoting fitness and health among students.

Engage and Transform

Colleges interested in elevating their fitness programs and engaging students in a new realm of physical education are invited to contact The Academy Programme for guidance on programming, class planning, and leveraging CrossFit’s comprehensive training methodologies.

This initiative not only seeks to find the fittest individuals but also aims to foster a community of health and fitness enthusiasts who are equipped to lead healthier, more active lives. For colleges looking to introduce a dynamic and inclusive fitness curriculum, The Academy Programme provides an unparalleled opportunity to make a lasting impact on students’ lives.

For further details on participating or integrating these opportunities into your institution, please reach out to The Academy Programme directly. This partnership reflects a commitment to enhancing student fitness through innovative, inclusive, and competitive platforms that bring out the best in each participant.

Hannah Mittoo

Hannah Mittoo is the Co-Founder and Director of The Academy Programme, a UK-based initiative using CrossFit as an educational tool. She played a key role in piloting a 16-week CrossFit course aimed at supporting students, particularly those in or from the care system, by introducing them to sports and fitness, while also focusing on life skill development and educational opportunities. Following the pilot’s success, Mittoo and her team expanded the program into schools, partnering with local CrossFit affiliates to engage and transform students’ lives through fitness.
